Wed 20 Aug 2003

Report for Wednesday 20th August Today was very much hotter and more humid than the last few days. However, the sun continued to shine and the winds, though somewhat fickle, were seldom very strong. The President’s was fired today at 300m, 500 and 600 yards. This is the second part, with the Letson, of the qualifying stage for the Governor General’s. The President’s was won by Andrew Sims, an Australian currently living in Toronto, with 150.20. Alain Marion was 2nd with 150.19, and there were two scores of 150.17 from Peter Church and Linda Miller. In the F Class, there is a tie between Harald Poetker and Wolfgang Scholze, both of the BDMP, Germany. Leo D’Amour and John Brewer were next in line, both with 178. Today we also fired the 800 metre range of the Gibson. The result of the latter match will form part of my report for tomorrow after 300 metres and 600 yards have been fired. The list of the 50 TR qualfiers for the Governor General’s Final is heading by Alaqin Marion with 255.31. Adam Samansky, Massachusetts, USA, is second with 254.31, and Linda Miller 3rd with 254.28. Subject to any further corrections, the last qualifying score for the Final is that of Carl Ganter, Lacome, Alberta, with 248.25. The F Class scores are not available to me as I write this. This may lead to a sleepness night of worry about what happened and who has qualified, since IK may have (just). We have now fired a possible 655.131 in the Grand Aggregate. The unofficial leader is Pat Vamplew with 648.69. Alain Marion is 2nd 647.74, and Des Vamplew 3rd with 645.66. In F Class, John Brewer has 768, from Wolfgang Scholze, 765, and Dave Rumbold 759. A plethora of other team matches was also fired this afternoon, Otherwise, all is well. We’ve had two reports of the chuckling kind – one where two senior executive members went out for a tie shoot, but after some 25 rounds, one ran out of ammo and halted to try to beg/borrow some more. He did not exercise sufficient power and influence to allow this to happen, so had to withdraw from that tie shoot and several others. And then there was also the pair of senior executive members who went out to fire a 15 round match with just 10 rounds apiece….. Tomorrow is meant to be hot again, with a chance of showers. Friday and Sunday are predicted to be sunny and much cooler.
