The 121st CFRC will get underway tomorrow – we hope! At the time of writing, the Ottawa area, along with most of Ontario and several US States, is experiencing a massive electricity black-out. This should not affect the shooting, but it will certainly affect our ability to post scores form the computer.

Entries are down this year, largely due to the post-Palma legacy. For a lot of people, the extra time at Bisley meant that they could not also come to the CFRC. There are no large TR teams this year, and the entry from individuals, from Canada and elsewhere, is also down. The numbers in the F Class last year were boosted by the World Championship that followed the CFRC. This has not been the case this year. Other factors, some of which have been mentioned to me in correspondence may include the legacy of the SARS outbreak (which had nothing to do with Ottawa), the West Nile Virus (ditto), Mad Cow Disease (ditto), international uncertainty, firearms legislation, especially for those crossing international borders, the phase of the moon and so on! We do have individuals from all parts of Canada, from the USA, Australia, Bermuda and Great Britain.

The weather here in Ottawa is warm and sultry. There is a chance of thunderstorms for late Friday and early Saturday. After that, it should be cooler and less humid – perfect weather for shooting!

All being well, I will publish daily lists of scores along with some comments each day. The CFRC ends on Saturday 23rd August.
